Last Project 9 Dec.2011

The second last week here at work and its going strong, work is pumping as usual not even realising its nearly Christmas.

So this week i have been pounding away at the new project In Bergendal i was given to finish by the time we leave here on the 15th dec. So i have now finished the sketch design mostly, - Here are some of the drawings.- But while working we realised that we are still over the regulations for what we have to build on, and i now have to decrease the whole house by 2m on the south side. So it is now onto that big task and lets hope i finish it soon.....

Well after that i still have to try and fit in a council submission for this House before i leave Bomax, so enough talking here and i gotta get back to work.....

Designing and planning

The year is almost over and i have only two more weeks here in the office , and then its Christmas holiday time...

A normal week, started as usual and then i was back onto the new Bergendal project and doing some nice planning and designing with Dion and drawing up and modelling the design, and then changing things around, as things normal go when you are busy designing... So far the house is looking good and after the work and design crit we had today id say it is coming together quite well and starting to look like a well designed house. Lets just see if i can finish it in the last two weeks i have left here at bomax.

New Project - Bergendal

Monday came and i started some new drawings after the discusion at the meeting. i started setting up the off-shutter wall drawings combined with the cantilevered stairs and the bar drawings to create a set of precise drawing for the contractor to work from and pull off the design. The bar drawing is quite interesting with all its joinery and trap door to the cellar details and the stairs are quite intricate to get right because they have to have the precise placement on site in order for it to work and look good.

I then started a new project on friday, it is a modern house in Bergendal. they want me to finish it before the year is over here and get some 3D's out and hopefully a council submission. they say it can be done easily, i dont think as much. i just hope i can get it done in time..... pressure is on......

Kwl week...

Friday 18th Nov.

A normal week as many before. not much to say about it. We had our normal monday morning meeting and then i was back on to Freddy Hirsch working drawings to be finished this week so we can start finishing off that project and all the admin work that goes along with it for the year. So i basically started with the specifications for each element checking them and making sure they all still apply and are current. I then moved to line weights and detailing and then dimensions and then the electrical and an electrical sectional elevation. The drawing package looked pretty good and i was happy with it so it was sent off and that was the end of my week.

Back to work

Well its the first week back and its back to work work work. there are only 5 weeks left and we are trying to finish off all deadlines and wrap things up before the end of the year.

SO we had our morning meeting as usual. This time it was really good for me because i needed the update on whats been happening here since Ive been gone. In some aspects its been really busy. Like i walked in on Monday and i thought i was in the wrong place, they "re-decorated" the office! but in other aspects nothing much has changed. Looks like work stops without me! lol but there were new developments on other projects that came back into the picture. Which was a good thing.

This week i started a council submission for the Freddy Hirsch Kitchen. Its a very small package. It only contains a site location plan, plan, and section. Well it is only a kitchen. My next order of business this week was a scullery addition revision to a previously bomax designed house. That went well, lets just see what the clients think, otherwise its back to the drawing board, and now its the end of the week. A good week.

Nearly block 3

Well i have to say the week started bad... we got burgled...long story. then the days just kept on rolling while i tried to finish everything off before i leave for 2 weeks to go back to tech!

I went to site though on Monday and that was cool, to go out again and feel like a real architect. We had to go and take measurements and make sure of the existing plug points at the Freddy Hirsch Kitchen. To set up a full brief for the contractor with the Working Drawings. So i have pretty much concluded the working drawings for Freddy Hirsch for now they are meeting with the contractors today and Monday. The tenders just came back so they will be pricing everything today as well...Which probably means the drawings will change. But for now i got them out before i left.

Today i started a small new project its and alteration or more like an addition to a previous house they did. Its Rugby Road Alteration and they want a new scullery addition to there new kitchen. So iv got to finish these drawings by  today before i leave because i wont be here for awhile. Therefore Ive got to get back to work...

Kitchens.....

So a pretty normal week , cant say much , not much to say. We had a normal Monday morning meeting and then i was on to the Freddy Hirsch Kitchen working drawings. I've been doing allot of kitchens lately, i think i can become an interior designer or possibly just a joiner.... I did some work on the Afonso House again this week, just a quick detail for the eng. or aluminium guy to price and manufacture.

So i suppose that was it for this week, still on the kitchen and not much else to say, its been a very quick and quiet week...

7th oct weekly update

A new kitchen, still working on kitchens, but a new one this time. A new project was recieved last week and the clients are Freddy Hirsch, the spice people and we ahve to redo there Sencory Kitchen were they make and test all the foods and spices. So firstly it was getting the design approved from the presentation drawings. Then we are moving on to all the tender and working drawings aswell as electrical and ceiling drawings.

I have been getting back specs of appliances whole week to properly fit them into the kitchen and find a space for all of them in the design. There are about 14 differant appliances around this kitchen and i have been modeling them all and putting them in and re-designing around them. All in all it is a well put together kitchen with a solid modular concept.

Besides some barn work here and there that was it for this week.

So i got my brief and was on my way a cute small kitchen just for us. So i finished that on friday and it was sent off to the joiners to be priced and quoted....

Here & There...

This week ive been working on a few differant things. Mostly on the Hemelzight Farmhouse still but also sending old drawings to eng. and contractors for other jobs that are still in construction phase. Some insulation drawings had to be done and consulted with a professional in that field and a few phone calls had to be made. Otherwise ive still been working on the working drawings construction set. Busy with stairs, balustrades, the bathrooms and offices and generally detailing the house and fixing up all the problems that happend while we made the design variation 01change. The pool drawings was also updated we just have to wait until a subcontractor is appointed by the contractor and then i can send them off. I also worked abit on the barn again with some changes and a new council re-sub had to be taken care of.

Other than that everything got done and sent, quite a productive week...

Revisions.......

A pretty good week, went very fast as they all do these days. Started as normal with the Hemelzight farmhouse, detailing the main staircase, then cellar and wall calculations for the ruin brick feature wall they want to do in the cellar. I had to Calculated the amount of Ruin bricks we need and if it would will the wall we are proposing to put it on. The eng. drawings had to be checked in correspondence with ours before we issued the working drawings for the Barn. So we did and it was issued.

So the working drawing were issued after some issues were resolved with problems with the eng. drawing. The the very next day it was re-issued due to late information coming though. Then without out fail the very next day it was issued again due to more LVL CHANGES...  SO I Issued Working drawings and 2 sets of REVISIONS of the same drawings in the space of one week... busy week....... t b c..

Cellar Designing... :)

As decided on Monday I have been working on the Cellar of Hemelzight Main House as that would be one of the first things that will be built and it needs to be resolved and fully designed and detailed. So i have been drawing that up most of the week as well as the main staircase.

The main staircase is timber cladded with a steel frame, in the double volume space and is cantilevered from the feature concrete off-shutter wall. I have been doing working drawings and details for the stairs and cellar and preparing it to be presented to the client. Today, we have bben preparing all the drawings of the design variation that he has requested to present to him on monday aswell as the Cellar. I just hope he doesn't have anymore changes in mind, because i pretty much like the design as it is and it works well. So lets see what next week holds...

SEPTEMBER SPRINGING

Its Spring, though the weather doesn't show it yet, but summer is around the corner. Monday i carried on with the Rider Plans for the Hemelzight Barn resubmission. Then at the same time on wed. council needed changes done on the drawings so i quickly got that done and resubmitted to council...While multitasking on the house platforms and roads.

The House Secondary structure Is also very actively in the process of getting drawings out on detailing all the neccasaary components for construction. Then the client decides to drop a bomb on us and tell us that he wants his bedroom 2m wider and each of his dressing rooms 1m wider and the house has already been handed over to site and they started the foundations..... Clients are really unawear of the implications of them just changing there minds when ever they want. Changing one thing brings a knock on effect to everything else that has already been done. The electrical layouts, the drainage, the joinery and all the internal planning etc. needs to be redone and designed.... But as Brad says... "Thats architecture for you..."

Week of friday the 26th

The week started as any other, Monday morning meeting and then back onto the drawings. Working drawings is the aim of the month to come and everything revolving the Hemelzight Farmhouse Project. So i started with the repositioning of driveways and planning becuase some changes needed to be made and the contractors on site needs the info to prepare the platforms.

Tuesday came and i was onto the working drawings and details of the pool and decking area. We are at that stage now where you have got to think about which drawings and area to tackle first according to what the contractors and builders on site will be looking for as they start building. The drawing catergaries are brocken up into Siteworks and primary, Secondary structures and fixtures and fittings. In this project though it gets abit confusing because there are three buildings, the Main farmhouse, the Cottage and the Barn being built.

Thursday i then moved on to the Barn council sub. Rider Plans, it has been decided that the barn should now be resubmitted to council because we have moved it to a new location, and the location is now finalised, so i started working on that. Not long after that, yet another argent matter had to be attended to and i had to work on the road designs on friday. A bit of road designing and planning in here aswell! The client does not want to spend more money putting in new roads and wants to use the existing ones as much as possible. While we would still like to keep our route which meanders past the dam and vinyard area. So it was back to the drawing boards for us, or should i say workstations!

Late Blog.... Lots of working drawings to go out

OK, sorry for the late blog, but last week was a bit strange i felt like i had to re-adjust back into the work environment after a week at tech and i was just out of swing.
I was back at work at Bomax Monday morning in the meeting, sitting with a bandaged finger and body aches from the weekend overnight hike, but ready do get back onto the Hemelzicht Farmhouse.

I soon got back onto the kitchen layout planning and design. Finishing off the drawings and joinery and setting up the scullery/pantry and laundry as well. During the week that i was at tech the house was handed over for construction which now calls for a whole new batch of drawings to issued. I then moved onto the electrical layouts making sure everything was ready and preparing it for construction. All the secondary structure working drawings as well as the fittings & fixtures drawings needs to be set up and done in time for construction. So i started setting up the staircase, built in fireplaces and some fixtures and fittings drawings. I then moved onto the Cellar and pool drawings, mostly just getting them ready for crit and then to move on from there. Then ill be onto the real construction and detailing of these items... :)

Another one bites the dust

So another week has past and its tech week next week and i still have quite abit to do...
I was working on the Hemelzicht farm house this week again and i was busy with kitchen layout and planing. The week started with some brain storming to resolve some detailing with the joinery and the junctions between joinery, ceilings and walls. Then on Wednesday we sat down and further resolved the area with a nice design and planning of the kitchen session.

I am creating a fabulous kitchen in this Modern Cape farmhouse in Hermanus, situated on a small vineyard. The kitchen is quite modular and modern but with an old timber farmhouse feel to it. Which is achieved by some timber architraves and detailing around window and door openings and cantilevered timber stairs next to it.

thats all for now, its back to tech for a week next week, so see you soon.

Weeks Flying!

So its Friday again, i nearly forgot, wasn't it Monday just yesterday? When We had a quick meeting and i was onto the barn to finish off the Specs for all the materials and fix up the details after we had to move the Barn again for the third time. But hopefully now the client has made up their minds and it wont be moved again. So yes i was mostly doing that whole week, finishing working drawings, specs and details. Yesterday I was back at Oceana, (next to Tech) For another desnagging of works completion lists, and Monday should hopefully be the last one. The building and office spaces are looking good though and i think they are working well, just a few minor things here and there that i picked up that the contractors still have to rectify.

Today I'm still on the barn, but getting things ready for construction, and now i am getting a drawing done with levels so that they can start excavating the land and preparing the platforms. So that's about all i can say for this week, they are just flying past like crazy lately, i don't even remember the week...

Working at it...

Working hard and quick and getting things done according to deadlines is the name of the game in architecture, but when you have to redo your work all the time because things change is not cool at all. Not to mention all the tech school work that needs to be done on top of that.

After Monday morning meeting which covered the weeks schedule, i was back on the barn to hopefully be finishing off the working drawings and then get onto the main Farmhouse. But things never go as planned and the barn is moving again so all my work goes down the toilet yet again. So we decided to leave any work on the barn until the position is finalised, and i move onto the main house. Most of the week i was going through the eng. drawings and making sure they correspond with ours and changing ours to reflect the eng. construction drawings and cleaning up the details. I then moved on to the electrical plans which were very cool and intense, where i learned new ways of doing electrical layouts and door schedules. I think these new methods are quite effective and work well, and improves the overall drawing.

Anyway so today is Friday and i was back at Oceana site de-snagging once again on my own, but i was only there from 8-ish til past lunch time today, and then i went back to the office to revise a drawing of a boundary wall in camps bay which is still causing problems. That Concluded my week and it was off to the week end were my school/tech work awaits.

Going to Site? Getting Drawings done?...

This week started and ended with long and tirering site visits. The Oceana building that we were working on is now coming to an end and we have been going to site continuously to try and sign the building off and complete the building completions list as soon as possible. We have to work through each floor all the time and check that everything is done and up to scratch. While back at the office lots of work is waiting for me to get back and finish them off. So how do you manage to get office work done when you have to go to site all the time. How do you balance it off? Where do you find time to do both, and pull them off seamlessly?

I was hard at work this week on the Winery proposal and barn drawings for the site in Hermanus, Called Hemelzight. The winery complex we are desighning is the second phase of the complex but when thay are all complete, our complex should resemble a quaint winery village. The Barn is the first phase of the complex and is quite interesting. It is a steel frame construction with tertairy walling with quite interesitng detailing and we are trying to pull it off with all low cost materials and goood architecture....

Barn and Proposed Winery and Resturant Relocation...

Moving a brick out of a solid wall, and then trying to put it back again, That is what this feels like. The Client and the landscape architect decide to move the barn to a differant location on the site so all of our drawings need to change and we need to move the model in Revit to that side of the site to have correct contours and site sections.

Its is almost impossible to do, like moving an already build house, all in Revit. But we are getting it right slowly, there is just alot of recon to do, and fixing of drawings, but i am learning alot on revit through trial and error, in doing the most strangest things. The New development causing this big change is the incorporation of the winery and tasting venue over-looking the vineyards. The designing of this is really interesting and i am helping in the design process and doing some research on other good examples in the WC. It is a very interesting project and we hope to get it published once we are done.... :-)...

*New* Hemelzicht Farm house Winery......

Started a new Project this week! It is a Big piece of land in Hermanus, Called Hemelzight, that the client is now building his main house and cottage on, and then added to that is a Barn, which will finally intergrate into a winery village. At the moment i have started on the Barn which has already been aproved at council and now working drawings are needed aswell as tender drawings. They are going to be issued, or we hopefully want to issue them at the same time as the Main Farmhouse and Cottage to the contractor and QS. for pricing and construction.

So the drawings just need to be prepped and more details are needed and we need to look into the constructoin of the steel and blockwork walls a bit more and resolve a few things. All in all it seems like it would be an interesting project to pull of well. Once i complete the barn drawings i will be put onto the main house construction drawings which still have alot to do before they go to construction in a few weeks...

*Screens* :)

A quick Monday morning meeting started the week and then it was back to the details for house Afonso in camps bay that i have been working on so adamantly for a while now. It was though now and then to figure out what was happening around the doors with the wall finishes and the architrave details, but i also had some fun with the screen walls where i had some design freedom to create a timber screen design to the living area. A deadline was finally set for it and it was done and sent off to Norma at Dorma  for an ironmongery schedule.

Then today i moved on to more screens the outdoor overhead screens/ pergola's at the entrance and beach side of the house. Once again they are once off designs and i had the design freedom to create something smart and sleek, fitting with the theme. All in all they come out well and look good too. I just cant wait to see them in the house in real life. So now its just to print them out on Monday morning and sent to client for approval then off to the tenders and  contractors.

Youth day site week.

Another day, another morning, and i am still sick. Or probably sick again from somebody else. Started our monday off as ussual with a meeting and it was said that Oceana building is now in completion stage and needs to be *de-snagged* or a workes completion list needs to be done, so Riaz and i have been going to site whole week and inspecting the building and we are not finished yet, we have one more floor to do and all the joinery aswell. But it was interesting and really nice to be on site and see your drawings in real life, built and actually going to be used.

Other than all the site inspecting we did this week i was still working on the internal timber doors and details for house Afonso in camps bay. And today i am back stuck on this boundary wall, pool and service room changes that just keeps coming back. This is the fourth time i change these drawings and i just hope that this time the client, neighbours and area committy opproves it.

So i was finally on site this week and i hope to be on sites more often again soon, and hopefuly on the Afonso site soon, lets keep our fingers crossed.

Sick week

Monday was very busy, but not uch to say, i was trying to finish the drawings of the new proposed boundary wall height to send to the client in Johannesberg aswell as fixing internal timber doors. But the drawings were finished in the end and i emailed it out last thing monday night. Then tues. came and i was sick and stayed out till wed.  I was back at work on thurs. but still not doing very well so needless to say i never really got anywhere fast with my work, but still managed to get a few things out, like the pool and bounary wall revision for site.

But its Friday today and i still dont feel 100% but im working on the internal timber doors and detailing, and plan to rest well over the weekend.

!! Boundaries !!

Another week has come and gone and still learning all the time, and lots more to learn. After another monday morning meeting i am still on House Afonso in Camps Bay but now on the internal timber doors where everthing is specially made.  Then finding specs. for the door and deciding on the finish while corresponding with the client to confirm the finishes. Working on that, other revisions cropped in with doors aswell as the framless glass door.

Then i was onto more boundry wall issues. Firstly after the drawings were issued last week, the eng. sent it back and disagreed about the fact of our pool on the boundary wall and then secondly the neighbour is suing becuase we are obstructing his view. So i was back onto the boundary wall, making changes and re-designing the service room to match the new boundary design, But still lots to do on monday and lots more to finalise, but that is for monday morning and another week of learning.

The weeks blur...

The weeks are going by so fast now, it just all becomes one big blur and it is hard to keep track of what you are doing and what you have done. Yet you have to find a way to keep track some how, and ontop of that try to fit some school work in there somwhere and meet those deadlines that just never seem to go away. Like a small devil sitting on your shoulder reminding you that there is no rest for the wicked and no eaise for those who has not finished there school work.

So the week at work was this and that, but mostly on the working drawings of the boundry wall and pool for site because the builders are waiting for them. That was interesting work and very much like the previous entrance drawing i did wih very modern cantilivered slabs over pools and lots of details to consider and i learnt alot, othersie the rest of the week was revisions on old drawings i did.
I cant wait till i get to go to one of these sites that i am working on because im sure they are going to be amazing houses by the looks of things, very modern and expensive.
Anyway lets see what happends next week.

Revit Modeling

So this week after the monday morning meeting it was decided that i would move on to help on House Afonso, on the beach at Camps Bay.

Initialy i was to start on the door and window schedule and re-model  them in revit, but we soon realised that the revit work was not up to date and done in 2d, so i started updating the revit model first and checking ceilings to make sure of the door placements. So the modeling took me about two days and over time to apdate and fix, but by that time it was wed. , the holiday...

Then thur. came and Dion wanted to know how far the doors and windows were and i had barely started them, and he wanted them done by friday or we were working the weekend. There were lots of issues, crits and phone calls about door sizes, glass thicknesess and weather they were aluminuim or frameless. Neverthelesss friday came and the stress was on but i worked late and it was finished on friday evening. wow, a very stressfull week. glad its over.

Reception *Stresses!!!*

The week was pretty up tight and stressfull with the boss man on me whole week to do this ground floor reception area for Oceana building, while Riaz gives me aother things to do, all on top of the fact that i never went to site when he said i must go.

I started the week with more Oceana joinery drawings and details, and thats when Dion told us that the reception needs to be issued. Then Riaz gave me more cieling details for Oceana to do for all the floors for the offices. Then i had to do the fire door schedule for the automated sliding fire doors, and then started with the ground floor reception.

So Riaz sets me up with the draing and i get started, then dion comes and gives me the most craziest crit ever, you never know where you are after Dion crits you, you just sort of sit there. So the crit he says alot of things, about what must go there and how it must fit, but he also says that he want to relocate the fire control panel into the desk aswel and seeing as we are not sure of its dimensions i sure go to site and have a look at it. But then at the same time he says that this drawing should be out asap. so how do i go to site and get the drawing out and can i just go to site by myself?
Anyway so friday comes and we have another crit and Dion goes crazy because this drawing needs to go out today and we are trying to confirm finishes. So i finished the drawing and we issued to tender for pricing. And then Doin wants to know why i didnt go to site? But when should i have gone and how?

So anyway no site visit but the drawing is out with a "to be confirmed on site" note attached to the fire control panel. oh well maybe next time.

Details :)

Ok so only four days of this week but not too bad on the work front. Lots of details, jumping from one project to the next  but all having the same thing in common, the details. All the projects that are happenning here at the moment and that i am working on are all at round about that stage where the builder needs to see the construction details and needs to be issued "yesturday".

So it started with a pool detail and sections for construction on house Joubert, which had me scratching my head abit, about where the best location for the pump should be, and what the shadowline overhang pool surounds should be. but that took me about 2 days then it was on to the doors and windows schedule where everthing is custom made and we had to work out everthing so that it fitted in nicely and corrisponded with the overall design off the "very modern" house. The once the electrical guy finally sent the electrical referances fro all three floors, i could check it, prep it, and print/send for construction. Then i moved on to something i never did before, ceiling layouts and details. I nevr thought you did layouts for ceilings, i just thought you put it in. Well i learn something new everyday, apparently you need them when your ceiling is that complicated like this on is, or like most of them are here on these projects they work on. Lots of bulkheads and floating ceilings and shadowlines, which  means lots of details on all three floors.

But all in all its been a good week and i just keep on learning.

3rd/-...4th

My third and fourth week at bomax cant really be called a week with all the public holidays, but we did manage to fit work in here and there.

I finally finished off the entrance working drawings and details of House Parker, which Mr. and Mrs Parker now decides that it looks to expensive and want to go with the cheaper option, (after they said they wanted something nicer! now they say they don't have money, and then they rather put more marble in there bathroom).

After house Parker i then went back onto Oceana joinery details and layouts. Processing them as they are coming in from Collaboration who received the tender for the joinery, and then preparing and issuing construction drawings to site, where the contractors are waiting for the information to continue with there work. So it is an on going domino effect of people waiting for the others to do there work in order for others to do there's.

House Joubert Having the same problem, i started the electrical switch reference layout with the information we have received from Switchgear, the company that has the electrical tender. Then after completing the plan layouts we decided that a schedule is needed for the contractor to distinguish the plugs from, seeing as the information from switchgear is unclear. But being that the info is so unclear i could not complete the drawings until they clarify the uncertainties. So once again it is one party waiting for the other to complete there job, so we can do ours.

Entrance!

The second week at bomax started off realy nice, then became a total stressfull blur. i started with some more nice work on the Oceana project, doing some more joinery and partition and shopfront glass details for construction, then when wednessday came, it brought on the stress.
House Parker and his entrance layout detail drawings, i have been working on them steadily and contiuosly since wed. and it is monday and i am still busy and it needs to be issued tomorrow for construction. I planned on working at home tonight, but my laptop is still not ready for me yet so i have to go in early tomorrow morning and try and do all the changes, thats all i have been doing is changes.
I must say that i am having alot of fun working on it, and learning alot on revit and generaly. I have never worked on such modern stuff before with water features and everything.
I cant wait to see what i get to do next, so i can now say with confidence that working at bomax will be interesting, and an exciting year of learning.

bomax.

Ok, my first week at bomax architects and i quite enjoyed it. back in the game and ready to win the race, I was pro-active and quite busy, and was happy to be doing some work again.
Started monday morning, we had a monday morning meeting, where they went through all the current projects and what stages they are in at the moment and where i can help. They decided that at the moment Riaz has the most hectic deadlines and i should help him.
The company consists of the Bossman Dion Max Walters, his secratary/PA/admin./everything Natalie, Brad an architect, Riaz snr technologist, and now me, student. A Workforce of five, but are currently looking for another student.

After the meeting i just got there and jumped right in and started working. It was exciting, because the first project i am working on is "Oceana" that is the Thomas Pattullo building, our tech building and the one next door, at the moment we are just working on the one next door, our building will start construction once the developers give the go-ahead. So in some way i still feel connected to tech. lol.
I stared the HUGE schedule for the three top office floors and i dont think i ever seen or had to draw that many doors and glass shopfronts for the offices. I mean i have done schedules before but not to that extent! I finished it on tue. because there are tight deadlines with that project at the moment and they needed it for the meeting, and the meeting brought more work. So wednesday i had to start with the joinery on all three floors and the information they send us comes in drips and drabs, so we keep having to change things, not to mention the amount of times they change there minds, what to omitt what not to omitt and to add new. That kept me Quite busy the rest of the week, and now its friday and i think we are ontop of it. UNTIL something happend, i dont know what i did but i just lost the whole 7th floor... and i dont know what to do, how do i tell them.... my heart was pounding in my chest, into my throat, i swear if i smoked, i would have lit a cigi to calm my nerves.. when Riaz asked me if i printed it already i told him... he said its gone, i had draw the whole thing over. Then he said his only joking, they have back-ups. aaaaarrrww, releaved, but heart still pounding. I was to scared to even touch the computer after that.

But all in all a gud first week at bomax and being in Town again and i only expect it to get better. I wonder what is instore for me next week... I like the people, they are fun, interesting, helpfull, friendly and a bit crazy, i like crazy. I guess Tanya is right architecture does make you crazy, or maybe just a bit loopy, not completly off the deep end.

OK SO IM BACK IN THE GAME.

Ok so its friday and i start a new job on Monday , after two weeks at home wondering what the heck i am going to do, where am i going to work, and scouting for interviews. I am finally settled and starting at Bomax architects.

I could not decide which company to go with, because i origanally went back to KMH to ask them if their offer still stood. they said yes they would take me on even though they dont realy have work for me at the time. Then a few days later bomax calls and says i should come in to meet the director and he offers me the position and they have work for me and  they need me. So inevitably i went where i was need, and i went to Bomax.

So there is not much else to say at the moment except that i am nervous scared and excited to go and start at a new company all over again, SO HERE WE GO AGAIN, IM BACK IN THE GAME, and starting this race all over again. Chat again soon.

SIGNED AWAY

Another week passed and i signed my retrenchment papers yesturday, so i am officially retrenched.
Work here is very slow. Before i signed the papers Leon Smith had a meeting with me and said that they have come to a decition that they wil not be able to take me on there at his office in Blouberg. So i am still looking for another job, and Bomax has not come back to me yet.

Not much happening in the office since the company is closing, just completing projects and finishing off projects that will not be taken over by Leon Smith office.I was doing council submission drawings this week and i had to do alot of changes everyday, mostly from the clients request. I also did some work for Architect Van Aardt, on the Big Bay appartments again, as well as doing some tiling layouts here yesturday, which i enjoyed, because he said i can do what ever i want and just go crazy.

Otherwise thats it from the office front, we are just packing up the computers and office stuff, becuase the company is closed after today. So today i smy last day working for Smith and Smith Architects, soon it will be somewhere else.So goodbye Smith&smith, good bye dungeon, and good bye homy people. Change is happening, so change i must do. Next time we chat it will be from somewhere else, somewhere new...

STILL ON THE LOOKOUT !!!

So its Thursday, a week and 1 day after the big news about Smith and Smith closing down, and us being retrenched. I am still looking for another job, still waiting in anticipation for a response, and wondering what the future holds.

Work here in the office has practicaly slowed down to a hault, with really just main architect Van Aardt working, although i somtimes see him also just surfing the internet. It is almost as if somone has just drained the energy out of the office, like there is no driving force. Like Pauline (the other architect) was saying, there's no passion anymore to do the work or regarding the office.Well i surpose thats whats happends when ur told ur being retrenched. Well i cant say that im doing any work iether, im neither here nor there regarding anything, or everything.

There are still a series of meetings going on informing us on the process, but really all they doing is repeating themselves over and over again, probably to cover there own asses. No real input is coming from these meetings, and everyone just seems more frustrated when they come out of them. Ofcourse its frustrating to them, they losing there jobs, there main source of income, there bread and butter. But for me, i like meatings, its a chance to do nothing, and talk around a table for even hours sometimes.

Some good news is, I recieved an email back from Bomax architects on tuesday, saying that they like my work and they will call me back on monday for a final interview with the director. Sounds really hopefull, and i will be keeping my fingers crossed till then.

JOBLESS !!!...

This week and month started out just like any other with a new-monday and a carry-on-tuesday, but when wednesday came, it awoke a whole new term i did not think i would hear till my late 40's, RETRENCHMENT...

I came out of a big meeting on wednesday, with big boss( who has the tumor) and big bosses brother, along with a labour lawyer, where we were all told that the company Smith & Smith Architects is closing down, we need to look for alternave work, and issued with notice of retrenchment letters.
WoooooooooHHhoow.jees loueeeess. Me, a student being retrenched, sounds crazy stupid. What do I do now, What is my next move,Where do i go from here, Will i find another job now when there are still students looking since december? All Questions running through my mind as i sat there that wednesday afternoon at work, staring at the computer screen, sitting in my chair looking at work that now seems pointless since we wont be here for long. A computer and chair that i have become to love, in an environment i have become familiar and comfortable with, and now i have to leave behind and its only been 2 months. BUT CHANGE IS INEVITABLE... so change i must do.

That being said, my mother as great as she is, as soon as i told her, started sending my portflio around once again, while i was at work. Then the very next day i got i call for an interview on friday at Bomax architects.
The interview went well, they liked my work and said i was the best they've seen so far and it was a bonus that i already had Revit experiance. Then i was ended with a," thanks we'll let u know" the very same words that haunted me last time, aaarwww, i hate those words...

So yes, I am back at the starting point, after my trial run, waiting for the gun to go off so that i can finally make my mark, and embark on this years journey, so that i can win my race.

MY BIRTHDAY CAKE :)

It was my birthday yesturday and i brought a nice death by chocolate, chocolate mouse cake to work which everyone loved. Then when evening came, i took a nice fresh cream bery cake to ballroom class, and then at home with the fam. we had a nice cupachino cake with bubbly... mmmmmm.
My boyfrend Gary, bought me the cutest, big, hairy, lion teddy bear, which now lays on my bed and sleeps with me, and my valentines was just amazing, the most romantic ever.

Work this week was head down busy, with lots of pressure for me to finish the market drawings for the Big Bay appartments, which launch today. The drawings were finished yesturday evening, and checked by Van Aard, who says they fine, just a few minor things. I actually finished them on Mon. allready but i had to correct things and fix the dimensions which i did wrong. Otherwise a pretty quiet week this week, except for all the lovig iv been recieving, first valentines and then my birthday, all  in one week.
aaaaHHHh i love february...

NOT MUCH TO SAY...

This week was pretty blan, cant say much except that i was working on the Big Bay appartments again this week, setting up markettng drawing plans of each appartment. Today though, being friday, the last day of the week it just had to now get stressfull, after i had such a mellow week. The architect i am working with on this project seems very stressed out and angry today, and is asking and expecting me to do these things, and i am not sure how to , but he seems to irritated for me to ask, i kinda dont want to be a distraction cause he seems very on edge. But slowly i am getting this confusing revit under my belt, with all its linking, and loading, sheets, project families and all other foriegn languages, its kinda complicated for one girl to handle, and all on a Friday of all days. But wait there is good news, im getting there, and there are helpfull souls around me that i can ask with a much friendlier face, dont get me wrong the architect in question is a real nice & friendly guy, just not today.
I do feel that i am becoming part of the family here though, slowly but surely as i join in on there projects, but bein a busy student compared to sitting in the office are two compltly differant situations. For one thing, i can not stand sitting infront of the computer whole freeeeaaaaking day, i am going to pull my hair out.. :( # i feel like the energizer bunny in chains#

But there is good news, ITS FRIDAY and the weekends here, somthing i have learned to appriciate much more this year since there are no more school holidays for me... and guess what, its Valentines weekend, and i hope to have a special weekend, and i hope all of you do to.

This is ME!!!!!!!

Check out my SlideShare Presentation:

This is ME!!!!!!! the starting Point....

I was reminded while doing the attached assignment on "this is me", who i was and what i am about, things i forgot about myself because we are to busy taking care of life, to think, contemplate, dive deep into the ocean of our mind, and just spend alone time with yourself, QT, meditation, day dreaming. All things i used to love doing when i had time to do them. The same goes for arts and crafts, painting, dancing singing.

Now my time is spent on ARCHITECTURE, and dont get me wrong that has become a new found love and interest of mine, or more like a daily obsession, seeing as it takes up most of my time, and leaves little time for anything else. Like a joke i once heard- Why do some guys marry architects?- Because they're never home...

Like my job this year as an in service architectural student i am now working for the duration of the year at a small company called Smith&Smith Architects in Tygervally office park. My first taste of an office job, and it feels almost like i am a child again going in to the office with my mother for the day, and sitting next to her at her desk while she works. Everything is new and different and interesting.
The company is small based in an old house, but the people are friendly and helpful, and i feel very cosy and at home there.

The company only consists of 2 architects, 2drawghtsman, a graphic designer, me, secretary/office manager, and the boss Henk Smith. Who has just came out of hospital after removal of his brain tumor an will be in recovery for six months. Therefor there has being allot of office politics being going on about the running of the business, and being that i am a very quiet person you tend to hear allot, sometimes even more than usual, and by the sounds of things, the business might be merging or closing down.

Nevertheless, work goes on as normall, and clients don't wait for anyone. I have been working there for just under a month now, and Up until tuesday i have being working on the project, Kelderhof residential village sketch designs while helping Pauline and the other arch. with council submission printouts, as well as changes and improvements for clients review. Since wed. i have been helping arch. Van Aard with the Big Bay apartments project, and have bein doing individual unit plan sheet layouts. Most of the  time they just look so busy and stressed i just wish i could help them already, but i am nearly there, Rivet i have nearly conquered  you!

I quite injoy the office environment down in the dungeon of the house, although the office politics, uncertainties and dissatisfaction of some of them, make for a very uneasy work environment. None the less i feel very at home and do not bother myself with that. What ever happens, happens.
I look forward to seeing what the rest of the year holds, and this is This is ME!!!! only the beginning, the starting point, im sure there will be lots of up hills and down hills in this race but it can only get better.

So this is me...
